WHAT DOES CARES DO?
- We have been working with City government and County Park Systems to develop a Bark Park. A place where people can take their pets for exercise and socializing.
- Another venture is Kitty City. Located at 36 Union Street in Concord, North Carolina, it is used for education on the overpopulation of cats in Cabarrus County, and as a facility for adopting stray animals.
- The Pet Food Pantry located at 812 N. Main Street in Kannapolis, NC has feed approximately 2,000 pets of ex-Cannon Mills employees after the plant closed. Our intentions are now to work with Co-operative Christian Ministries, and DSS (Cabarrus Country Department of Social Services) to identify those people most in need of pet food assistance.
- We work with the local veterinarian organization to schedule Low Cost Rabies Clinics for families on limited income. Three clinics have been held since October 2004 where nearly 200 dogs and cats were vaccinated.
- Our Medical Assistance Fund has helped several animals in emergency situations at local veterinarian clinics.
- And, our Spay-Neuter Program has just begun to reduce the number of unwanted dog and cat pregnancies for low-income households.
- Housing - Do you have an unused doghouse?
