Public Awareness

As “a Coalition of Animal Rescue Efforts and Services”, we are dedicated to cooperation between all animal welfare groups. We seek to raise awareness of the responsibilities of our community to be sure that our pets are cared for humanely and are loved, fed, watered and sheltered.

The first task Cabarrus CARES confronted was the massive job of insuring that the 4,000 Pillowtex families, who suddenly lost income, would not be forced to abandon their pets because they could not afford to feed them. CARES established a “soup kitchen” for dogs, cats, gerbils, birds, rabbits and other pets at 812 N. Main Street in Kannapolis, NC. Any needy family who requires assistance to maintain their pets can receive free food at the Pet Food Pantry.

Future projects will involve health care issues such as spaying and neutering, rabies clinics, and education of pet owners, as well as the training of pets.

Food supplies may be dropped off at local veterinary clinics or at the Pet Food Pantry, 812 N. Main St., Kannapolis, NC.
